5Ws & 1H of being a Muslim youth
Delivered by Dr Mahera Ruby | Author & Family Coach
Growing up today can feel overwhelming for young Muslims. Between school, social media, and societal pressures, many begin asking: Who am I? What do I stand for? Where do I belong? This six-week workshop series supports teens in exploring these questions and building confident, values-driven identities rooted in Islamic principles.
Background
Research consistently shows that when young people have a strong sense of identity, especially one rooted in faith and positive cultural grounding, they develop greater confidence, resilience, and emotional well-being. Faith-based identity also serves as a protective anchor, helping them feel secure, connected, and purposeful while reducing the likelihood of harmful or risky behaviour.
This journey of self-understanding requires guidance and a safe environment in which to ask real questions.
What participants will learn
Our aim is not to preach. Instead, we seek to equip, support, and empower.
This course provides a welcoming and supportive space for teens to explore:
What it means to be a young Muslim today
Why faith matters in shaping their identity
Who their role models and influences are
Where they fit within their community and the wider world
Their key decision-making moments
How to stay confident and true to themselves
The sessions are interactive, relatable, and free from judgement. Participants are encouraged to share openly, reflect deeply, and connect with others who understand their experiences. Parents often tell us that their children leave the course showing greater maturity, emotional clarity, and a deeper connection to both family and faith.
Note: Participants are strongly encouraged to keep their cameras on during the sessions. Please ensure they are in an appropriate environment for this.
Who should enrol
This course is designed for teens who want to:
Build a strong sense of identity rooted in Islamic values
Navigate school, social media, and peer pressure with confidence
Develop emotional resilience and self-worth
Connect with others who share their faith and values
Learn to make choices aligned with their true values
Rather than being shaped by external pressures, participants will learn to define who they are with clarity, purpose, and pride in their Muslim identity.
